Summer is almost here and we are already getting a glimpse of it. After a long cold winter, it is really refreshing to feel the warm sun again.
One of the things that summer brings is the sun. Resulting in difficult bright lighting, which can be a problem when shooting during the day. Especially shooting portraits in the sun will form unattractive dark shadows under the eyes and may cause your subjects to squint. Because of that, I always shoot during the golden hours when it comes to portraits. Which means waiting longer until the sun set or waking up really early to catch the sun rise.

I have to admit, I struggled for a long time to take a picture with both the background and foreground equally exposed. Because loosing detail in the foreground or having a burned out sky can be very frustrating. But the trick here is very easy. You can take 3 pictures of the same scene with different exposure an combine them into one using Photoshop. Or you can just take the shot with a slightly under exposed foreground and adjust it in post production using anything from Lightroom to any editing smartphone apps.

Another thing that summer brings with it are the bright and saturated colours. They are very important, as they determine the mood of our pictures. I always try to use colour to further enhance what I am try to convey.
What is your summer photography like? I have added "summer" gallery where I'll be uploading pictures through out this summer.
